7 ways to Freshen Up Your Bathroom with Scents

Bathrooms aren’t exactly known as the most glamorous part of the house. These smaller rooms tend to get easily overlooked when it comes to making homes feel cosy. However, no one wants to live with a dirty bathroom, especially when it’s a place to feel clean.

There’s a lot to think about when cleaning bathrooms. In between all the scrubbing, drying, and arranging, bathroom odour is one of the most important things to keep in mind in keeping your bathroom fresh. This goes beyond eliminating odour; introducing refreshing and clean scents make a big difference.

With hundreds of advice and products to deal with bathroom odour, we have sifted the information and came up with 7 ways to freshen up your bathroom with scents!

1. Light a Scented Candle

Lighting a scented candle in the bathroom is easy, but choosing the right scent is the hard part. Sometimes, candles do more harm than good. Make sure you choose the right scent that perfectly matches the vibe you want your bathroom to have and that it does not clash with cleaning scents like bleach.

Generally, avoiding gourmet scents would probably be for the best. Candles scented with soft florals, bright fruits, or fresh leaves are perfect for freshening up your bathroom and even eliminate odour. Here are some of our suggestions:

Ocean Mist

If you want to turn your bathroom into a relaxing oasis and an escapism of sorts,  Ocean Mist captures that fresh ocean breeze scent from the dune grass all the way to the waves. This is also a neutral scent your roommates, family, or guests will love and appreciate.

Watermelon & Lemonade

If you want a bright scent to lighten up the mood and create a vibrant aesthetic in your bath, our best-seller  Watermelon & Lemonade  is the perfect scent! This combination of sweet juicy watermelons and bright citrusy lemons have the right amount of fresh without being overpowering or smelling like your generic bathroom freshener.

Cherry Blossom

For a relaxing candle but with softer, more feminine notes,  Cherry Blossom  has soft florals and subtle fruits that create a sweet and refreshing scent for your bathroom. This candle will make you feel luxe and extra special.

2. Leave a Reed Diffuser

Of course, you can’t light candles  unattended. And when you are going out, too busy to watch a candle, or don’t want to risk a house fire, reed diffusers are your best friend. When candles aren’t doing their work, let reed diffusers do their magic!

Reed diffusers are designed to disperse a steady bloom of fragrance that is usually more subtle than candles. They are highly loved by many people as they are constantly giving fragrance and are a lot more low maintenance than candles. They are also perfect for apartments where open fire is not allowed.

For reed diffuser scents, we recommend fresh florals you won’t get tired of like  Mermaid Kisses or a fruity scent that will keep your bathroom fresh 24/7 like  Love Spell

3. Hang Eucalyptus in Your Shower

You’ve probably seen these all over your Instagram stories—a bunch of eucalyptus branches hanging elegantly in the shower. Turns out, it’s not just for aesthetics and actually has some benefits for you and your shower.

Eucalyptus is known for its relaxing properties both physically and mentally. This fresh minty scent is known to  relieve headaches and a stuffy nose. It is also known to reduce anxiety and stress. Plus, it will definitely make your shower smell extra clean and fresh!

All you need to do is take about 2 bushels of eucalyptus, tie it with a rubber band, and hang them in your shower. This aroma can last at least two weeks and even up to two months!

4. Always Sanitise

This goes without saying that no amount of candles, diffusers, and eucalyptus will help if you do not sanitise your bathroom. Disinfecting surfaces, scrubbing toilets and floors, and reorganising your bathroom products are absolutely essential for keeping it fresh. It may seem clean, but there are bacteria that we do not see that could be causing any mysterious odours.

Clean your toilet daily or at least once every other day, while tubs, showerheads, and sinks must be cleaned at least weekly. A deep cleaning is also recommended once a month. This will ensure that your bathroom is free of any odours and even prevent diseases.

5. Make Sure You Have Proper Ventilation

Proper ventilation is crucial in eliminating odours, but it is also important for steam to escape when taking hot baths and showers. When steam gets trapped in the room, it can seep through walls, floors, and ceilings. This trapped moisture will then end up in damage and mold growth, which is a serious health hazard.

To make sure you have proper ventilation, regularly check if your exhaust fan is working, consult with a technician, and make sure you address any issues immediately.

6. Use Up the Space Efficiently

You might think this has nothing to do with scents, but having unnecessary products and clutter can cause bad odours in your bathroom. Empty that drawer with hair and expired makeup. Throw away old shampoo you don’t use. These little things domino and end up being spaces for your insects to inhabit or accumulate dirt.

Always organise your bathroom to keep it tidy and refreshing. You’ll be surprised at how much visual clutter takes away from freshening up your bathroom. If it looks good, it will help your bathroom smell good too!.

7. Stock Up on Products That Smell Good

The last step to making your bathroom smell good is for you to smell good too! Whether it’s a nice smelling soap or a lovely bath bomb, bath and body products that smell good will leave your bathroom smelling good for hours even when you step out of the room.

Royal Essence has a wide range of scents in  whipped soaps,  body scrubs,  bath crumbles, and  bath bombs from sultry florals to sour lollies! These products are designed to release lovely scents for your body and for your bathroom, making a relaxing ambience for a self-care pamper party for one!
